Veliko Tarnovo was nominated for tourist municipality of 2018. The old capital is among the nominees for the annual business tourism awards – Bulgarian Travel Awards and the voting continues until March 31. The nominees are the municipalities of Varna, Samokov, Sliven, Devin, Kyustendil, Vratsa, Bansko, Veliko Tarnovo and Velingrad.

Near Veliko Tarnovo is the picturesque architectural reserve Arbanassi. A true Roman jewel is the nearby Archaeological Reserve Nicopolis ad Isturm. Veliko Tarnovo also has the only Miniature Park in Bulgaria, with models of the most significant historical and natural Bulgarian sights.
