The one-year-old badger Dobri is the newest resident in Pavlikeni’s Zoo. He was given to the zoo by a hunter from the village of Kamen near Veliko Tarnovo, who raised him in his home. That’s why Dobri is tame and very friendly to all visitors – big and small. He likes to eat fruit, corn, eggs, small vertebrates, insects and more. The only zoo in the Veliko Tarnovo region has recently acquired a pair of birds – mandarin. They are one of the most beautiful and expensive decorative ducks.
Visitors to the Pavlikeni Zoo can also see a kangaroo, lamas, nandu birds, monkeys, bears, wolves, jackals, peacocks and more. The zoo has a wide variety of birds and other animals. There are over 400 animals and birds of over 40 species. Animal lovers also enjoy the rich collection of over 200 pigeons which was donated to the zoo by the municipal councillor Toshko Krumov.
The zoo is open every day from 8:00 till 19:00 and the entrance is free. Visitors can leave donations in the box next to the main entrance of the zoo if they wish. The zoo has an area of 8 acres and is 300-400 meters from the city centre. At the beginning of the zoo, there is a children’s playground with swings and slides for the children, as well as benches for parents’ recreation. Since the summer of 2014, there is even a water attraction for children – a swimming pool with bumper boats that visitors can enjoy during the warmer months.
