3D mapping and more at the Fest of the Gorna Oryahovitsa Sudzhuk near Veliko Tarnovo

The Fest of the Gorna Oryahovitsa Sudzhuk near Veliko Tarnovo will have a rich program and many surprises for visitors this year. The fest will take place from 7th to 9th of June in the “City Garden” Park.

The Fest starts on Friday at 3 pm when the XXIII Regional Review of the Old Town Song “Bozhuri” will take place. Afterwards follows a folklore palette with the participation of groups from the Chitalishte “Bratia Grancharovi – 2002”. At 18.30 the singer Nelina and the orchestra “Zdravets” will take the stage. The official opening of the Fest is on Saturday at 11 o’clock. The fest will continue with a variety of folklore programs by amateur groups, culinary games, quizzes and more. The program will include Dimitar Argirov, Express Band Orchestra, Joro Lubimetsa and Valia.

Traditionally, gaming enthusiasts will compete for the fastest cutting of sudzhuk, for the most beautiful plateau, for fastest eating, and so on. The surprise of this year’s celebration is a 3D Mapping show, which will be dedicated to the sudzhuk. The residents and guests of the city can enjoy the spectacle on the 8th and 9th of June at 23.00 o’clock at Georgi Izmirliev Square. On June 9, the program continues with a variety of folklore programs by amateur groups. The evening will end with festive illuminations.

Another surprise of the Gorna Oryahovitsa Sudzhuk Fest near Veliko Tarnovo will be the carving of a wood sculpture inspired by the sudzhuk. Krum Velkov will carve his sculpture in front of visitors. The sculpture will later be exhibited in the park and remain there. Currently, there are two contests related to the fest – for the best home-made sudzhuk and for the best homemade dish. The participants and their creations will be evaluated by technologists from firms organizing the fest. The award ceremonies will be on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

There will also be an exposition in the History Museum dedicated to the sudzhuk. It will be free in the days of the holiday. The museum has prepared a rich set of souvenirs as well.
