Update on the coronavirus situation in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria and Europe

48 new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in the country in the past 24 hours, of which 25 have been hospitalized. This makes the total number of infected people in Bulgaria 783 as of today (16.04). Most new cases have been detected in Sofia – 32 and in Smolyan – 7. One patient was registered respectively in Veliko Tarnovo, Kyustendil, Sliven, Plovdiv, Kardzhali, Burgas, Vidin, Gabrovo and Dobrich. 37 people in the country have died so far and 122 have been cured. 

One new coronavirus positive patient has been registered in the Veliko Tarnovo region. The patient is a woman of 73. The people with whom the woman has been in contact have been identified and they will be quarantined. There are a total of 10 cases so far in the Veliko Tarnovo region. 

The Health Minister Kiril Ananiev said that a mass testing of Bulgarian citizens is planned to start. Right now the country has 20 000 PCR tests and new ones are also expected from deliveries and donations. He also said that over 4 million leva were received in the health ministry’s bank account from donations, which will be used for protective equipment and tests.

According to information from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control at the moment Bulgaria has the lowest rate of reported cases per 100 000 population the EU. In the table below you will find data form the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control as of 15 April 2020.
