The municipality of Lyaskovets organizes for the holiday of vine growers and winemakers a competition to select a master winemaker. It will also include a traditional wine tasting and a festive program for the residents and guests of Lyaskovets.
The municipal competition for choosing the best homemade wine. This has become a tradition and will be held on February 13, 2024 at the Museum of Horticulture. By statute, adults with permanent residence in the municipality of Lyaskovets have the right to participate in it.
How to participate
Those wishing to take part in the competition must submit their samples to the Museum of Horticulture. For this purpose, they need to bring one bottle of their wines – white or red. As a mandatory condition is that no more than two wines from a family can participate. All producers of the homemade drink wishing to participate in the competition must provide the samples from 1.02 to 10.02. Wines will also be accepted on the very day of the competition – February 13 from 08:00 to 12:00.
On February 13th, a panel of tasters will evaluate the qualities of the wines. The judging of the samples starting at 2:00 pm at the Museum of Horticulture. Cleared, home-made wines presented in unlabeled bottles with a capacity of at least 0.5 liters are allowed to participate. In order to avoid any doubts about the complete anonymity of the competition, participants will not know their registration numbers. During the tasting, the public and the participants of the competition must not make contact with the oenologists.
The chairman of the jury will announce the results at the end of the evaluation of the drinks in the two categories – “White wines” and “Red wines”. The municipality of Lyaskovets provides three awards in both categories. The best winemakers who have qualified will receive awards – certificates and cash prizes for first, second and third place.

The winners of the competition for the best homemade wine will be awarded by the mayor of the Municipality of Lyaskovets. This will happen on the Trifon Zarezan holiday itself on February 14. At a special ceremony before the festive concert on the open stage in front of the community center in Lyaskovets. Before that, from 10:00 a.m., the mayor together with the King of the vineyard and the local priests and the official guests, prominent winemakers of Lask and citizens, will ritually plant the vineyards according to custom. As tradition dictates, there will be a ceremony in the vineyards of Lyaskovets. A bottle of wine will be symbolically sprinkled on the vines for blessing and prosperity. And names will be pronounced by King Tryphon, whose role for another year will be fulfilled by the chairman of the Lyaskovets Community Center Vasil Rusev.
Official guests and residents of the city are also invited to take part in the planting. For citizens who wish to participate in the celebration, the Municipality of Lyaskovets provides transport to the vineyards, which are outside the town – on the Lyaskovets-Cestovo road. The bus will depart from the Municipality at 09:30 on February 14th. For the guests of the holiday, a toasting treat is provided in the vineyards. As well as a barrel of wine in the central square – a gift from “Total-Vini”. And also a concert that will start at 11:30 a.m. on the central “Vazrazhdane” square.
The municipal leadership invites the public to participate in the festive events on the occasion of Zarezan – the day of vine growers and winemakers, a day of ancient traditions and livelihood.
