The modernization of Gorna Oryahovitsa airport will include a long runway from 2024. And this will happen thanks to investments in the amount of 13.3 million BGN. Local media reported this, quoting the Minister of Transport, Georgi Gvozdeykov.
Until now, the concession has already invested BGN 5,960,000 in the main airport.
The concession “City Airport Gorna Oryahovitsa 2016” JSC plans to spend the initial 13.3 million BGN in 2024 in 4 directions:
- for the loss of the fifth road at the Airport
- for the loss of a new aeronautical photo system
- for the acquisition, delivery, installation and customization of systems and applications for the aviation industry
- for taking off and landing long runway
The Gorna Oryahovitsa airport will be the third in the country with a 3-kilometer runway for take-off and landing, next to those in Sofia and Burgas.
“It is important that the concessionaire has not given up on the investment. And the intention to pay the debt, which is planned for the implementation during the next year”, said Georgi Gvozdeykov.
The installation, rehabilitation and extension of the runway is part of the General Plan for the development of the Airport. For the General Plan, the concessionaire has an ecological assessment and developed an ecological program, both are proved by the autorities in Veliko Tarnovo.
After that, the final contract for the concession, was prepared with a specialized construction plan, which entered into force on August 21, 2018. The building visa is a mandatory requirement for the awarding of the technical manufacturing license by the investor.
By the end of 2019, they were completed and agreed upon. “City Airport Gorna Oryahovitsa 2016” AD started the preparation for their implementation. While these are in progress, the concessionaire maintains the necessary level of the Airport’s operational quality.
The modernization of the airport – a longer picture and a complete update
Next year the improvement ot the Gorna Oryahovitsa airport will include a longer runway. Also a new fence and a video surveillance will be ready by the end of 2023.
Up to this date, a hangar for the technical observation and expansion of airplanes was build. The concessionaire has proposed to acquire the property in hangar and to give it to the government in accordance with the concession agreement.
“City Airport Gorna Oryahovitsa 2016″ AD has presented the annual investment program for the year 2023 in the amount of BGN 6,960,000 without VAT. This money are for the fence and the hangar”, the concessionaire said.
The area around the airport is very suitable for attracting foreign investments. Moreover as it has good technical infrastructure and is located close to main roads. In conclusion, let’s find out whether the modernization of the airport will attract new investments to the city.
