A foreign investment company, which wants to stay anonymous for the time being, shows interest in the international airport at Gorna Oryahovitsa, near Veliko Tarnovo. A representative of the firm, the name of which is shrouded in mystery, has already visited the airport on a couple of occasions. The last viewing of the grounds took place a month ago. At this stage the only thing known for sure is the potential investor is an airport operator represented on key airports around the world.

Geri Holding, the American company running its business in Italy, has now officially deposited its investment plan for the airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa in the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport; the total cost of the project is more than 100 million euro. The information was published in a local newspaper last week.
The Council of Ministers is expected to vote the conditions of the concession by the end of May and the optimistic outcome of the situation is that by the end of the year Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport will have its concessioner.
It was revealed that, as we already know, the American investor intends to bring back to life the airport and operate passenger and cargo flights. The new info that was disclosed is that he will also set up an aircraft recycling factory where ‘retired’ airplanes will be disassembled and parted out. Reportedly this will be the first of its kind air base in Europe. The local economy will also be boosted and the labour market will be awakened – around 500 new jobs will be available once the airport is a fact.
There is a concessioner willing to operate the Gorna Oryahovitsa airport, it was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary group of the ruling party GERB, Tvetan Tsvetanov, who was elected from Veliko Tarnovo region. The local press centre for the party announced that a letter-initiative from the investor was received in the Ministry of Transport.
According to the information the Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski said that the investment plan has been analysed thoroughly and it contains all the necessary elements and activities for a successful development of the airport.

Last month the government Agency for “Roads Infrastructure” (API) announced dates for a series of meetings to consult with local people on the proposed routes for the new highway between Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo, as reported by VT-Today Nov 23rd: Ruse-Veliko-Tarnovo-Highway.
The new road has an approximate length of 133 km. The beginning of the project is 3 km east of the existing Danube Bridge near Ruse and ends just south of Veliko Tarnovo, connecting with the existing road I-55 between the small towns of Kilifarevo and Debelets. The project is divided into three main sections: from Ruse to Byala, the bypass of the town of Byala and the section from Byala to Veliko Tarnovo.
