Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport receives funding from the state

The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications has secured additional 2.05 million leva for the airports in Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa. These funds will be used to pay off the debts which the state has accumulated towards both airports for the funding of activities such as ensuring the safety and security of flights and for the maintenance and development of the airports.

Meanwhile Gorna Oryahovitsa airport is awaiting its new owner. According to experts there is a bonus the concessioner is to receive – an on-ramp from the airport to the future Hemus Highway that is to pass nearby. Only the opinion of the Commission for Protection of Competition is awaited before the new owner takes possession of the airport.

Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport concessioner finally approved

Civil Airport of Gorna Oryahovitsa Consortium was given the concession of Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, according to the draft decision of the Council of Ministers, addressed to the Mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, Dobromir Dobrev. The concessionaire was the only participant in the procedure for granting the right to operate the airport. The draft decision has yet to be voted at a meeting of the Council of Ministers which is imminent to happen. In two months’ time after the decision is passed the concession contract has to be concluded between the Minister of Transport, Ivaylo Moskovski, and the Consortium. The concession period is 35 years. The investments that the new operator will make for the duration of the concession will be not less than 32.1 million leva.

Although it took quite some time, things are really happening now so hopefully everyone from Veliko Tarnovo area will be able to fly to and from Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport. We will keep you posted with any updates!

Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport: Follow-up

airplane-landing_118571-1920x1080The Procedure for granting the Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport concession has officially started, it was announced by the Government Press Service. On July, 29th the Cabinet adopted a decision to launch the procedure for granting a public service concession for the operation and management of Gorna Oryahovitsa Civil Airport.

The main goal will be to attract a financially stable private investor to contribute to the development of the operations of the airport, ensure airport traffic and improve the airport’s commercial activities, was also said in the Government press release.

With the right investment in runways, buildings and equipment the airport is sure to bring the attention of many low cost and cargo airlines.

So maybe you are fed up with the long waiting but reportedly the procedure for granting the concession for the management of the International Airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa will be open in a few days; the information was published in Trud Newspaper. The procedure is part of the Strategy for the development of the transport system of the Republic of Bulgaria until 2020. In the following days the Council of Ministers is expected to adopt a resolution to grant the management of the aerodrome to a financially stable private investor who is to strengthen the positions and widen the scope of the airport. bg_AirThe secretive investor willing to operate the Gorna Oryahovitsa airport, near Veliko Tarnovo, was disclosed to be an American. The foreigner wants to run the airfield for the next 35 years. The investor owns the Geri Holding Company operating primarily in Italy.

The businessman deposited his investment plan last October; reportedly he will put 14 million euro towards the airport and will open between 350 and 400 new jobs. The newly employed staff will undergo training and will acquire the needed qualification in Italy. The investor is said to intend to set up an aircraft maintenance and repairs hangar.

The American entrepreneur also shows interest in agricultural land around Polikraishte where, according to the leaked information, he will built greenhouses and will export the ready produce with his own planes. Cargo flights will be in the focus of the new airport concessioner as well.

The managing team at the airport confirmed that representatives of the Italian company have visited the airport to collect up-to date information about the state of the airport.
