Veliko Tarnovo became the capital of Independence celebrations – events Veliko Tarnovo

Veliko Tarnovo will host the celebrations of the Independence of Bulgaria, announced in the old capital 115 years ago.

“This is an extremely important holiday for Bulgaria and very significant for our city. With the rich program that we have prepared, we show the special attitude of the people of Veliko Tarnovo” said Neiko Genchev, Deputy Mayor of V. Tarnovo.

On September 21, at 4:30 p.m., a parade of participants in the 16th International Festival of Military Bands will begin in the town center. They will pass along “Vasil Levski” Street. At 5 p.m. the official opening of the forum will take place in front of the theater.


September 22

On September 22, the program of the events Veliko Tarnovo will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. 40 Martyrs. At 9:00 a.m., there will be a water ceremony and sprinkling of the battle flag of the National University and the flags of state and municipal institutions, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations. After that, a solemn procession will head to the royal palace of Tsarevets. Where at 10:30 a.m. a military ritual will be held to raise the national flag of Bulgaria. Meanwhile official words will be heard and a festive blessing will be given. After which a festive procession will head to the “Mother Bulgaria” monument.


In front of the building of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo at 12:30 p.m., the show-performance of the participants in the festival of military bands will begin. In addition the festival is upgrading its program with two concerts – one at the “Emilian Stanev” University and one at the National University. At 1:30 p.m., the one-hour holiday concert of the Representative Ensemble of the Armed Forces of Bulgaria will begin. After that, the program will continue with a concert by formations from the Youth Center – V. Tarnovo, and at 5 p.m. a concert by Nikolina Chakardakova and the Nevrokop Dance Ensemble will begin.

At 6 p.m. they will lead the traditional Golyamo Tarnovsko horo. Meanwhile on Tsar Asen I Square, the residents and guests of the city will be able to see a performance of handstands with weapons by the representative part of the National Academy of Sciences. Entertaiment for the kids


Part of the program on the holiday day will be the already traditional “Eko Kids Tour – Sustainable Future” in Marno Pole Park. And it will include animation for children and parents, games and surprises from National Geographic Kids. On the same day, the guest exhibition “Rousse stories – one century” will be opened in the Art Gallery. In which 45 paintings by famous authors have been selected, united by the idea of a different look at Ruse and life there. It includes landscapes, interiors, portraits, still lifes, etc.

September 23


On September 23, at the “Trapezitsa” railway station in V. Tarnovo, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., the historical reenactment “115 years of Independence” will take place. Which will recreate the welcome of Prince Ferdinand and his entourage, who will arrive with the royal train “Corona Express”, and the reading of the Manifesto. Those who have already purchased tickets will be able to enjoy the attraction train ride to Tryavna and back.


The Corona Express will have an approximately 45-minute stopover at the station in the old capital. Where the train can be viewed from the outside and photos can be taken. But it will be possible to enter the retro carriages only at the station in Tryavna.
In addition to that on September 23, there will be a scientific conference of the Supreme Bar Council. The topics will be related to the Independence and institutions of Bulgaria. From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., the space from Stefan Stambolov Street to Tsar Asen I Square will turn into the Staro Tarnovo Artistic Pedestrian Zone. Which will offer passers-by concerts and outdoor attractions. At 9 p.m., the 3D mapping spectacle “Tsarevgrad Tarnov” of the “Asenevtsi” monument and the building of the HG “Boris Denev” will begin. And before that there will be a live DJ party with Bulgarian music.

September 24


On September 24, the world-famous Nicola Conte and a Latin jazz band will be visiting the Summer Theater. And the entrance to the concert is free. The musician is well known as the most successful Italian jazz producer, performer and DJ of the last 20 years.
The highlight of the holiday program is the Night of the Samovodska Charshiya and the Festival of Crafts. Which will take place from September 20 to 24. The organizer of these events Veliko Tarnovo is the municipal agency “Tsarevgrad Tarnov”. And there will be over 70 participants, including from Mexico and Peru.
