The cultural calendar of Veliko Tarnovo this summer is constantly changing due to the emergency epidemic situation in the country. At the moment, some of the events are already underway, others are planned, and others have been postponed or will not take place. Those that still remain in the program will be without international participation and even without some of the pre-announced Bulgarian artists.

Antique festival “Nike – the game and the victory” near Veliko Tarnovo
The festival is traditionally held in the Nicopolis ad Istrum Archaeological Reserve near Veliko Tarnovo. It is the only one of its kind, dedicated to the late Antiquity, and has been held on the territory of Veliko Tarnovo for three consecutive years. This year the festival will be on July 13, Saturday at 10.00 am.

The 7th emblematic for the summer season – Watermelon Festival, which is traditionally held in the village of Nikyup near Veliko Tarnovo, is coming. The Watermelon Festival will take place on August 4.
Every year guests from all over the country come here. The festival is accompanied by a lot of music and dancing people. Every year, guests have the opportunity to enjoy an exhibition of local and visiting watermelon producers, a procession with watermelon lanterns, carving demonstrations and so on. The organizers also plan to have a watermelon eating contest and many other surprises. Besides the carving demonstrations, there will be also body art painting and many games. Some of the games include rolling watermelons, guessing their weight and colour and bowling with watermelons. The village of Nikyup is known for growing high-quality local watermelons – sweet and with a thin peel.

The village of Nikyup is famous with its tastiest watermelons in the region, so you should go and find out the truth. 🙂 This will be the sixth annual fest in the attractive village. The event will take place on 5th of August (Saturday) from 6:30 pm and it will last after midnight. People from all over the world will be attending to this delicious fiesta.
