For the second year in a row, Fusion Fest will be held in Veliko Tarnovo. From September 25th to 27th residents and guests of the city will enjoy a rich and varied program within the Fusion Fest. Fusion music-making is an innovative art that combines different traditional and modern cultures and genres. Mixing musical styles is part of the exchange of cultures between different nations.

This year, the organizers have put their faith in Bulgarian groups only. However, each of the groups is well known on both the Bulgarian and international scene. They are Del Padre, Tango Cats and Outhentic. Other leading names in Bulgarian music will be invited as guest musicians as well. What is interesting is that not all musical performances will be planned in advance, but rather the performers will do their improvisations as the music unfolds.

Tango cats at Fusion Fest Veliko Tarnovo

The festival will begin with the famous formation “Tango Cats”. The group was founded in 2016 thanks to the love of three Bulgarian musicians to the dance of passion – tango. “Tango Cats”, however, shatter everything we associate with this style. The trio performs music by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Richard Galliano, D’Arienzo, Troilo, Di Sarli, Fresedo, D’Agostino and Morricone. The concert is free and will be on September 25th from 20:00 in the Lapidarium in front of the Archaeological Museum.

Outhentic

The second concert will be by Outhentic. The group was founded by Zhivko Vassilev (flute, piano) and Raina Vasileva (vocals, percussion). Outhentic is a combination of the words: “out” and “authentic”, which translated into Bulgarian means “outside the authentic” and a reference to their individual style. In the process of establishing its style, the band has had the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional, world-famous musicians and bands such as Grammy-nominated bassist – Juan Garcia-Herreros, Stoyan Yankulov, Ian Stevenson, Suchet Malhotra, Banda Del Padre and many others. The concert is free and will be on September 26th from 20:00 in the Lapidarium.

Del Padre

The final concert of Fusion Fest in Veliko Tarnovo will be by the Bulgarian fusion formation Del Padre. The musicians from Del Padre will once again delight the audience with a mix of flamenco and Latin rhythms, combined with traditional Bulgarian and Balkan folklore. The program is traditionally influenced by summer and love and as always will leave an unforgettable feeling of romance and passion. The band’s musical style is influenced by Spanish music – Spanish traditional flamenco, music from Cuba and Latin America, as well as folklore and ethno elements from around the world. Along with the musicians from Del Padre, the children from “Junior Band” – the children’s brass band of Veliko Tarnovo will take part in the closing of the festival. The concert is free and will be on September 27th from 20:00 on the stage of “Art Summer” (at the Assenevtsi monument).
