The sports complex “Hemus” is the latest acquisition of Veliko Tarnovo. A tennis centre with several courts, changing rooms and café wants to build Parashkev Dimitrov – a businessman interested in the sport and main sponsor of the Vitosha Cup Tennis Tournament. The complex will be located in Shemshevo, just some 6 km away from Veliko Tarnovo and will span over 6000 sqm. The entrepreneur has already lodged his project at the local authorities for approval. The Mayor of Shemshevo has given a favourable opinion on Dimitrov’s request, offering the most suitable place for it to be built – the terrain east of the village stadium. Veliko Tarnovo Municipal Council must approve the investment before it can be realized.
Very soon cricket fans in Bulgaria and mainly Veliko Tarnovo – Gabrovo area will have a place where they can hold competitions and coaching seminars and of course practice their favourite sport. The cricket centre will be located 10 km from the centre of Gabrovo, along the Gabrovo – Sevlievo road, under the Winding Wall Ancient Fortress.
The place will span over 20,000 sqm. The first stage of the stadium construction has started but more work is needed – the installation of the irrigation system, seeding of the field, completion of the stands and locker rooms. Hopes are high that the first official match and the grand opening will happen in July 2017.
Bolyari Moto Club is organizing a national gathering for the ATV riders on 24th and 25th September. The host of the events is Balkana Holiday Complex (GPS coordinates: N43.045032, Е26.029336) in the village of Kalaydzhii, near Zlataritsa. The organizers are promising new courses combining enduro both for experts and beginners. Saturday and Sunday will see lots of competitive races and provide you with the opportunity to try the off-road routes just for fun. Prizes will be provided for the top riders. This year the ATV lovers gathering coincides with the official holiday of Kalaydzhii.

Nikyup will once again become the capital of watermelons – the Fifth Watermelon Fest will take place on 6th August. Nikyup is famous for growing some of the sweetest watermelons in Bulgaria. The official kick-start of the fest is at 6 pm. Various singing groups and dancing ensembles will perform during the event keeping up the good spirits. There will be also carving demonstration showing interesting techniques for the transformation of a watermelon into a sculpture. A number of competitions will also take place – watermelon eating, watermelon rolling and watermelon weight guessing contests. A procession with watermelon lanterns will also take place. 5 tonnes of watermelons are expected to be eaten during the fest.
