The renovation of the entire Magistralna Street – from Metro Cash & Carry Store all the way to the South Junction – is reportedly under planning at the moment according to a local newspaper. The lot is part of the national road system and accommodates all the traffic between Sofia and Varna. The road hasn’t seen proper rehabilitation for the last 15 years and its state in some part is just tragic.
The government has notified Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and district administration that it has already assigned the task of planning of the renovation process. The promise for the rehabilitation came by the Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova in February and will be entirely state-funded.
A new roundabout will also be constructed – it will be built before the first roundabout (coming from Sofia) where the exit for Kolyo Ficheto neighbourhood is now. During pick hour the traffic there is awful and congestions regularly occur. The Arched Bridge part of the South Junction will also be fixed. It is expected that the total cost of the project will amount to 5 million leva.
The renewal of Magistralna Street will include new curbs, new asphalt, drainage system and new horizontal markings along the entire street. Currently traffic is along the street is hampered because of the construction of exits for the new Construction and DIY Hypermarket, which will be built on the site of the former furniture factory Pobeda.
