Medieval camp “Crown and Sword” in June in Tsarevets Fortress
A three day recreation of a medieval camp will be done in the Tsarevets fortress. From June 26th to 28th, residents and guests of the old capital Veliko Tarnovo will get acquainted with the way of life, crafts and arts, cuisine and military skills of Bulgaria, Byzantium and Europe from the period 12 – 14 century. They will be presented during the event Medieval camp “Crown and Sword” in the Tsarevets fortress.
Celebrations for the national holiday March 3rd in Veliko Tarnovo
On March 3, 1878, the Peace Treaty between Russia and the then Ottoman Empire was signed, ending the Russo-Turkish War, which began in 1877 and thus marked the beginning of the Third Bulgarian State. Veliko Tarnovo celebrates September 6th – the Unification Day of Bulgaria with a rich program
A rich program awaits residents and visitors of Veliko Tarnovo on September 6th – Unification Day. The Unification of Bulgaria was the act of the unification of the Bulgarian Kingdom and Eastern Rumelia in the autumn of 1885. It was coordinated by the Bulgarian Secret Central Revolutionary Committee. The unification was carried out after riots in different cities of Eastern Rumelia, followed by a military coup on September 6th in 1885, supported by the Bulgarian Prince Alexander I and led by Major Danail Nikolaev. The day was declared a public holiday for the country by the National Assembly on February 18, 1998.
