The museums in Veliko Tarnovo with new working hours from April 1

All museums in Veliko Tarnovo are extending their working hours

From April 1, 2024, the objects and expositions of the Regional History Museum-Veliko Tarnovo have new working hours for the active tourist season. Architectural-museum reserve “Tsarevets” welcomes visitors every day from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Closes at 20:00. Museum “Patriarchal Church of the Holy Ascension” is open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Here are the working hours of the other museum sites:

“Trapezitsa” architectural-museum reserve welcomes visitors every day from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It closes at 7:00 p.m.

Archaeological Reserve “Nikopolis ad Istrum” welcomes visitors every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closes at 6:00 p.m.

They represented jugs with handles with a capacity of a liter – a liter and a half, and their uniformity suggests that it is a medieval pub. And not only that, but glasses and even a bottle came out.

One of the interesting Veliko Tarnovo news is that the most valuable finds from the rich necropolis from the Roman era were presented to the media in the old capital. The necropolis was discovered at the end of last year near the village of Nova Varbovka, Strazhitsa.


The necropolis was discovered by a local farmer at the end of November during autumn plowing. When his tractor plow hit a large limestone slab and in the hole he saw human bones. The farmer notified the mayor of the village and the police. They called the archaeologist from the regional historical museum in Veliko Tarnovo, Nedko Elenski, to the spot. And it was established that it was an ancient grave. Month-long rescue archeological research followed in severe weather conditions and amid abundant December mud. In the course of the work, archaeologists Nedko Elenski, Kalin Chakarov and Mihaela Tomanova discovered a second, earlier grave.

“Tsarevets” architectural-museum reserve will receive tourists non-stop during the holidays, such as on December 31 this year. the fortress will be open for visits from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and on January 1, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The “Tsarevgrad Tarnov” multimedia visitor center will be closed on December 24, 25 and 31 2023 and on January 1, 2024.

Church “St. 40 Martyrs” will not work on December 31, 2023 and January 1, 2024. Church “Nativity” will not work on December 31 and January 1. On the temple holiday – December 25, the temple will be open for free visits from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no candles allowed, except for the interior candlesticks.
