Veliko Tarnovo is once again the national center of the celebrations of the Independence of Bulgaria – September 22
An invariable part of the celebration is the big autumn festival “Night of the Samovodska Charshiya and Festival of Crafts”, which spans six nights from September 18 to 23 and turns the emblematic craft street into a festival arena with nearly 30 events. Over 80 will be the artisans who will show old-time techniques and products. Events include creative workshops, concerts, children’s theater, a fire show, textile painting, soap making and artisan baked goods, etc.

From September 18 to 23, Veliko Tarnovo will come alive with vibrant energy as 80 participants take part in this year’s edition of the festival, “Night of the Samovodska Charshiya.” This prominent Veliko Tarnovo festival will feature 30 participants making their debut in the city, promising an exciting array of new experiences. The historic Samovodska Charshiya street will be filled with the rhythm of artisan talents, music, singing, and dancing, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for attendees. Visitors can look forward to a diverse showcase of knitwear, jewelry, natural cosmetics, organic products, mosaic workshops, textile painting, glassmaking, soap making, and master baked goods, all of which are sure to captivate thousands.
Highlights of the Festival: Workshops, Performances, and More
The Veliko Tarnovo festival’s program is packed with activities designed to engage and entertain. A standout feature is the bread workshop, where participants can knead and bake their own dough, adding a hands-on experience to the festivities. On September 21 and 22, the Wine Center will host students from the Vocational High School for Tourism “Dr. Vasil Beron,” who will showcase their skills by crafting signature cocktails. The event also includes a thrilling fire show, stilt performances, and live concerts featuring rock, jazz, and pop artists. On September 22, revelers of all ages can enjoy a soap bubble extravaganza and a lively foam party. The festival will conclude with a performance by the beloved Mangasaryan Brothers. As always, the Samovodska Charshiya will be dressed in its finest, offering a beautifully patterned backdrop to the celebration.
