The most prominent hotel in Veliko Tarnovo is to be restored

The hotel is in terrible state

The oldest and most prominent hotel in Veliko Tarnovo, Tsar Boris Treti (Tsar Boris the Third), is going to be restored. The plans for its complete restoration and renovation are with the Bulgarian National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage now and are awaiting approval. The project is elaborated by the same architect who restored Hadji Nikoli Inn and turned into a real gem which even won the Building of the Year 2010 contest.

The owner of the masterpiece created by the Bulgarian master builder Kolyo Ficheto is owned by the Texan millionaire Edmund Beck. He bought the former hotel, which is located on Opalchenska Street, from a bailiff.

hotelThis imposing for its time building was constructed by a master builder who built another 89 houses for some of the richest citizens of Veliko Tarnovo at the end of the 19th century. In the last year of its existence it served as a youth centre and a place for evening entertainments.

New museum in Veliko Tarnovo

It will feature exhibits found during recent excavations. The new museum will be set up behind the South Tower at Trapezitsa Fortress

A Medieval Museum will be opened in Veliko Tarnovo. It will be located on Trapezitsa Hill; the edifice that will accommodate it is already built. It will feature items and exhibits that were discovered in archaeological excavations during recent years. The museum is part of the local authorities’ efforts to restore this hill which has significant place in Bulgarian history and also to popularize it among tourists. The project will cost Veliko Tarnovo Municipality around 750,000 euros.

British couple to build a nomad camping site near Veliko Tarnovo

Two Britons are willing to set up a nomad camp near Veliko Tarnovo. It will be located near the village of Hotnitsa, some 20 km away from the town. The types of dwellings it will feature are yurts and smaller tents. Yurts are circular domed tents consisting of a framework of poles covered with felt or skins. They are traditionally used by nomads in Central Asia and were also used by proto-Bulgarians in ancient times.

The investment project is already submitted to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water. There will also be 4 portable ablution containers. The camp site will span at 460 sqm and will accommodate up to 44 people.

A modern yurt

The camp will be built near a mineral water spring and under the investment plan the water will be bottled reaching maximum volume of 2200 litres per day. An on-site sewage treatment plant will also be installed.

The project is currently under consideration and is awaiting the approval of the local authorities.

Third fest of the Elenski But in the town of Elena

Logo_Elenski_but_crFor the third year in a row the town of Elena is organizing a fest for its renowned delicacy – the Elenski but. The event will take place on Saturday, 25th October, in the town market; the old authentic houses and the cobbled streets covered with fallen leaves are the best interior for such an event. This year things are going to get even bigger – there will be stalls with lots of knick-knacks from the centre and all the way to the upper square. Many local wine producers will also present their wines. Another attraction will be a ride with a phaeton, a characteristic vehicle of old time Elena.

This year the organizers of the event – Elena Municipality, the Local Tourist Council and Rotary Club – have prepared an even more interesting programme than the previous ones. A stage will be set up in the town square where different performers will entertain the guests and citizens of Elena. The show starts at 12 pm and will continue till 8 pm.
