The village of Resen, near Veliko Tarnovo, is organizing a bread fest for another year. It will be held on July, 4th (Saturday) in the village community center; the festive day kicks off at 10 am. The moto under which the fest will be held is: No one is larger than bread.
As part of the fest two competitions will take place – a culinary and a folklore one. Traditional folklore and dance groups will participate in the folklore contest. The lobby of the community centre will host the ritual breads, banitsi, mekitsi, buhti and cakes made by participants in the culinary category.
A competent jury will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for overall participation. The jury will be chaired by Archimandrite George – abbot of the Preobrazhenski Monastery (Transfiguration Monastery), who was born in Resen. One of the contestants will receive the special award of the Mayor of Resen, Mrs. Yordanka Koleva, for their participation in the festival.
Two bread companies based in Resen will also show their products at specially designated stalls. All participants will be awarded certificates of participation. During the festival, everyone can try a tasty mekitsa and the delicious boiled sweet wheat dessert.
