Over 1000 purebred animals – sheep, goats, dogs and horses, will be shown at the upcoming National Festival of Sheep Breeders. The ninth edition of the largest industry event in Bulgaria will be held from 18 to 20 June near the Petropavlovski Monastery near Lyaskovets.
In two separate zones with a total area of 1200 sq.m. there will be specialized exhibitions of sheep and goats. Farmers from all over the country will show over 600 selected animals from 22 breeds of sheep and 5 breeds of goats. In the days of the event near the Peter and Paul Monastery people will be able to see the largest breeds of horses in the country, as well as various types of donkeys. There will be an exhibition of dogs and a special presentation of the clubs of Bulgarian Shepherd and Karakachan dogs. The festival will feature attractive farm competitions in manual milking and shearing, machine milking of goats, for the heaviest ram, the best cheese and yellow cheese, towing loads by horses and more. The organizers have also prepared an exhibition of agricultural machinery, equipment and specialized literature.
There will be an exhibition of farm products from sheep and goat milk and meat. It will include 30 farmers from all over the country, processing their own milk. The organic market with natural and environmentally friendly foods and products will be in a separate area. The exhibition will be under the motto “Bulgarian food from Bulgarian raw materials” and its main purpose is to revive the old culinary tastes, to promote the consumption of sheep and goat products and their production from Bulgarian materials.
The festival of sheep breeders will traditionally combine sheep and goat breeding with the rich Bulgarian folk culture, traditions and folklore. This year there will be culinary areas, traditional crafts, folk festivities, fire walkers (nestinari), dances, and many more entertainments and attractions for the whole family.
The National Festival of Sheep Breeders in Bulgaria is organized by the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the support of the municipalities of Lyaskovets, Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa.
