Governors of Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo insist that the main road connecting the two Bulgarian towns become a highway. They held a work meeting on the matter and stated they would seek state funding for the construction of a high speed road.
Both governors support the idea that the road between Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo should become a national priority. The main focus should fall on the Byala-Ruse road. For the past 10 months of 2013, the track between the two towns has witnessed more than 170 traffic accidents with 8 killed and 30 wounded. The stretch to Byala has not been renovated since 2008, after the great tragedy when a bus full of pupils fell into the Yantra. On the other end, the turns near Prisovo, Veliko Tarnovo are the only ways for heavy vehicles and when accidents happen, the traffic stops and there is no bypass route for the traffic from Romania to Turkey.
Regional governments will propose three steps to solve the problem, which includes better safety organization, reconstruction of the section Ruse-VT and long term funding through European programmes provided for planning and carrying out feasibility studies.
