Health authorities in Bulgaria now have the option to notify people that they have been put in quarantine via SMS. Citizens will be orally notified of the issued order for isolation or quarantine on a mobile or landline telephone number indicated by the person. The notification can also be made by an electronic or short text message to an e-mail address or mobile phone number specified by the person.
This change in the Health Act was voted by the MPs yesterday. Informing about the imposed isolation measure by telephone will reduce the administrative burden on the Regional Health Inspectorates and will speed up the process of issuing orders for quarantine.
The MPs have also decided that the fine for quarantine violation should be 5000 leva. A person who refuses to perform mandatory isolation or who interrupted the observance of the measure will be forcibly brought by the police to the address where the person must remain isolated. Another fine has been voted as well, the fine for export of medicines that are in short supply for the country during the emergency epidemic situation will be between 50 000 and 100 000 leva.

The total cases of the COVID-19 in Bulgaria are 155 193. Of these, 93 549 are active. 57 141 people have been cured with 1 935 of them registered in the last 24 hours. 6 766 patients with confirmed COVID-19 were admitted to hospitals with 523 of them in intensive care. The number of deceased people has reached 4 503 with 156 new cases registered during the past 24 hours.
