Demonstration of archery techniques, book reading and an array of workshops to participate in are only part of the events which will take place this Saturday in Veliko Tarnovo. Boruna Park, near Asenevtsi Monument in Veliko Tarnovo, will host the Big Hammock Swinging Party on 30th May, from 10 o’clock. As you might have guessed a hammock garden will be set up where everyone can swing and relax for as long as they want. Liverpool FC Youth Team is coming to Veliko Tarnovo

The renowned English football club Liverpool is sending his youth formation to take part in the second edition of an International kids’ football tournament which will be held in Veliko Tarnovo. Last year the first edition of the event marked the 90^th anniversary of the foundation of the Veliko Tarnovo based Etar FC.

The tournament will take place in Veliko Tarnovo from May, 12^th till May, 17^th and will be staged in three age groups – born after 1^st January 2000, 2001 and 2003. Liverpool will participate in the born after 1^st January 2000 group. There will be 6 teams in each age division, among them Etar, the last year winner CSKA, Liverpool FC, and other foreign teams.

Beside the cup and the medals the winners in the tournament will also receive a special prize. If the club which finished first is a Bulgarian one it will visit an Italian Serie A match; if the winning team is foreign it will visit the match for the Bulgarian Super Cup at the tournament organizers’ expenses and it also play friendly matches here.

Veliko Tarnovo to become a female football development centre

Veliko Tarnovo is one of eight towns in Bulgaria chosen to become female football development centres. The Bulgaria Football Union won the approval of UEFA for its scheme for encouraging young girls and women to play soccer. The project is part of UEFA project for ‘supporting and funding each of the 54 UEFA member associations in their quest to nurture and promote the women’s game in their communities, schools, parks and playgrounds’. There will be also football coaching courses for women.

Female FC Bolyarki was founded 10 year ago so the town has some traditions in this sphere. Veliko Tarnovo’s FC Etar has already announced its intention to start working with girls. Their coach will be the legendary football player of the recent past Ilyan Kiryakov. The female players will be equipped with kits and will take part in various tournaments.

Sports complex near Ksilifor with European funding

The project is to cover 30,000 sqm of land

Sports complex for 4 million leva is to be set up near Veliko Tarnovo right after the opening of the new European funding programmes. The plot where the future recreational centre is to be build is owned by a Veliko Tarnovo based tourist union which is the oldest one in Bulgaria. The project is developed by an architect and is so detailed that is takes up 15 thick file folders. It is one of its kind in North Central Bulgaria and will render the Ksilifor area an enticing centre for sports activities and cultural and eco-tourism.

There will be football pitches, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, climbing walls and even a small ski track. Different size swimming pools will also be available as well as Water Attractions Park. There will be enough car parks to accommodate all the visitors’ vehicles. The roads to Ksilifor and the infrastructure of the region are also to be updated. The mountain hostel is to be renovated and the adjoining lake will be cleaned. British ex-pat creates Bulgarian folklore dance portal

Andy Richards from Wales has created a unique portal of Bulgarian folklore dancing, reports the Borba.

The British ex-pat has developed the site for free, gathered all the information about dance schools, clubs and events by himself, and will continue to maintain it.

He took up folklore dancing a year ago and has been a passionate dancer ever since in the local Pagane Club in Veliko Tarnovo.

He started to learn dancing every week, progressing quickly and he now knows about 50-60 types of folklore dancing. But since he is not that good, he wanted to gather lessons and videos in one place, so he could refer, re-watch and improve his dancing.

He began to educate himself in the kitchen, but the space proved too narrow. Andy bumped into the table and chairs, and his four-year old son, Ioan (John) intervened his rehearsals successfully. So Andy Richards decided he needed to go to horoteki (folklore dancing events, dance-off of sorts) to get better. But in order to do that he had to know where this is possible.
