A special space for shooting with a traditional Bulgarian bow is available to visitors of the Tsarevets fortress as the newest tourist attraction in the old capital. The idea came from Angalot Enminas from Tarnovo, who organises various games and tournaments and is the creator of the room of mysteries – Logiscape. The medieval shooting range is located near the palace and it is a part of a joint initiative with the Archaeological Museum to create many attractions on the hill.
The creator’s idea is for people to get inspired and entertained. He wants to give the visitors an opportunity to feel part of the atmosphere of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, without claiming absolute historical authenticity.
The shooting range is located near the royal palace of Tsarevets, on the way to Lobnata Skala. The place offers beautiful views of the northern fortress walls and Trapezitsa hill. The shooting range is made of a solid construction that will secure the activity so that it will last for many years.
A traditional Bulgarian bow will be used for the shooting. It is composed of wood, leather and bone from horse ribs. The difference with the sports bow is that there is no aiming barrel. The visitors of the architectural reserve will be able to get acquainted with the characteristics of the traditional Bulgarian bow and in the meantime they can have fun and practice their shooting skills.
Every visitor of Tsarevets can try shooting, and children under 12 must be accompanied. To help visitors there is an animator who will give them lessons and tell them part of the history of the Bulgarian people, as well as the specifics of shooting. He is dressed in authentic clothes for the era to make this experience even more realistic and exciting.
In October and November, the medieval shooting range will be open on Saturdays and Sundays. To book an appointment at a different time, you can call to make a special arrangement.
The visitors can also enjoy the adventure game Mysteries of Tsarevets. This attraction has been held in the old capital for three years now.
