The emergency epidemic situation is Bulgaria will be extended for another 15 days and will end on July 1st. The emergency epidemic situation was supposed to end on June 14th but the prime minister and staff have decided to extend it until the end of the month. The decision comes after a significant increase in the number of newly infected since the end of last week due to the emergence of several new outbreaks in recent days in Dospat, Surnitsa and Shumen.
The Health Minister Kiril Ananiev explained that the measures he has prescribed remain in force in 3 main directions – border measures, distance and hygiene and temporary restrictions of mass events.
There remains a temporary restriction on the entry of third-country (non-EU) nationals in our country with the exception of Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. A pan-European solution is expected for all other third countries on June 15th but according to the Bulgarian authorities, if the borders are opened for third countries, this will happen no earlier than July 1st. The health minister pointed out that at the moment there is no change in the decision to open the borders for foreign tourists on June 15th.
The second direction is related to the anti-epidemic measures – social distance, hand hygiene, disinfection and wearing masks. Wearing masks in public transport is still mandatory and wearing them in closed public spaces is highly recommended but not obligatory.
And finally, the ban on holding mass events still applies, but theatres, cinemas, galleries, etc. are allowed to use 50% of their capacity as opposed to the 30% allowed till now. In our country, the infection is still spreading in clusters which is to say individual outbreaks erupt. Therefore, for the time being, there is no need for stricter measures.
93 are the new cases of COVID-19, confirmed in Bulgaria for the last 24 hours. This is shown by the National Information System. The distribution by districts is as follows: Burgas – 1; Vidin – 1; Gabrovo – 1; Dobrich – 1; Kardzhali – 12; Lovech – 3; Pazardzhik – 2; Pleven – 4; Plovdiv – 2; Razgrad – 2; Sliven – 9; Smolyan – 2; Sofia – 2; Sofia (capital) – 33; Stara Zagora – 1; Haskovo – 4; Shumen – 11; Yambol – 2.
A total of 3,086 cases have been confirmed in Bulgaria so far, of which 1,230 are active. The number of cured people is 1,688. 204 are the patients with a proven coronavirus infection who are hospitalized with 15 of them in intensive care. The death toll is 168 people.
