On November, 17th Tsrevets Fortress will shine in purple, the reason being the World Prematurity Day. Veliko Tarnovo Municipality is participating in the campaign to mark the day to show its support for the families of babies born pre-term. This day is observed each year to raise awareness of pre-term birth and the concerns of premature babies and their families worldwide
On Monday, from 7 pm Tsarevets Fortress is going to glow in purple for half an hour as a sign of Veliko Tarnovo’s and its citizens’ sympathy for the premature babies and their families and in memory of those who unfortunately lost their battle for life.
Approximately one in 10 of all babies born worldwide are premature. Bulgaria is also part of this grim statistics with premature births reaching 16-17% in some regions.
At the same time some good news came last week – apparently Veliko Tarnovo Municipality is one of 13 regions in Bulgaria with considerable rise in the birth rate. 1023 babies were born so far this year.
