For the first time, the picturesque village of Draganovo will host a unique competition centered on traditional Bulgarian food, particularly the beloved garden soup. This event coincides with the annual Gardener’s Festival, a cherished holiday that celebrates the village’s pivotal role in pioneering European horticulture.

Draganovo, widely recognized as the birthplace of horticulture in Europe, maintains a friendly rivalry with the neighboring village of Polikraishte, which also claims this title. “Our dispute is like the Hundred Years’ War,” jokes Draganovo’s mayor, Ivan Kishev. Despite this rivalry, Draganovo proudly honors its legacy through the Gardener’s Festival, which pays tribute to the hardworking men who taught Europeans how to cultivate exceptional fruits and vegetables.

A banitsa festival is coming up in Novo Gradishte – traditional Bulgarian food

The seventh edition of the Banitsa Festival is being organized in the village of Novo Gradishte.

The organizers are the City Hall, the “Nov zhivot” PC and the “Zora 1925” NP. The festival will beon September 16 in the village centre. For another year the masters of twisted, turned and pulled buns will present their culinary masterpieces of traditional Bulgarian food.

This year’s culinary festival is competitive, and the best banitsa in two categories will be awarded – for salty and sweet.

A festival of vegetables and garden soup is organized in Zlataritsa – traditional Bulgarian food

“Something tasty with a carrot” – taste the unique traditional Bulgarian food

This unique festival is dedicated to vegetables. Also, it is organised only in Bulgaria and will have its 18th edition in Zlataritsa. With it, the city honours its Gurbetchii gardeners, with the help of whom the local church and school were built. In the past, every year, 600–700 people went on gurbet, but they came back and helped with the common affairs.

This year, Tsar Zelenchuk will be the carrot. Therefore, the organisers from the Municipality challenge all future participants to prepare a garden or vegetable soup of their choice. Applications for participation in the Municipal Administration are now being accepted; the deadline is August 25.
