Street Fitness Competition in Veliko Tarnovo

А street fitness competition is being organized for a second year in Veliko Tarnovo. The event will be held on March 26 (Saturday) in Druzhba Park. Dozens of competitors from across the country are expected to arrive to take part in the clash.

The competition will be in freestyle format; what will be assessed is endurance, performance and attractiveness. Some of the participants have been practicing this sport for years and have even competed abroad. There will also be girls willing to show their skills.

Male contestants will be divided into two age groups and girls will be competing in a separate category. Of course there is a prize for the winners.

Participants can sign up on the very same day from 11 am at Druzhba Park.

Tomorrow we mark 22nd March – the Day of Veliko Tarnovo

The official date on which we celebrate the day of Veliko Tarnovo is March, 22nd. The date is related to the victory of Tsar Ivan Asen II over the ruler of the Despotate of Epirus, Theodore Komnenos Doukas, in the battle of Klokotnitsa (near the nowadays town of Haskovo).  The battle in which the Bulgarian tsar defeated and captured Theodore Komnenos took place on the 22 March 1230. Arbanasi celebrates Todorovden for the 26th time

Todorovden will be marked for the 26th consecutive time this Saturday (19th March) at Arbanasi. On Todorovden people called Todor and Theodore and likewise have their names celebrated; also according to old traditions many horse races are being organized throughout the country. The festivities will start in the morning in the village square. As usual there will be BBQ and wine stalls, great musical program and lots of fun. Once again the mayor Tosho Krastev, who is also celebrating his Name Day, promises to make all guests feel welcome and enjoy the fete.  The weather forecast is for good weather promising visitors only pleasant emotions. The organizers from the Village Hall and Kaloyan-92 Equestrian Club are ready to meet everyone at Arbanasi for a day filled with excitement and entertainment.

Nike releases trainers with the colours of the Bulgarian flag

US sporting goods giant Nike released tennis shoes with the colours of the Bulgarian flag. The company is the sponsor of the Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov; this was the reason for Nike to come up with the idea for sports shoes in white, green and red. It is expected that the trainers will be worn by Dimitrov during his next tournament.

Veliko Tarnovo hosts an international culinary festival

Veliko Tarnovo is to host a round of the Bulgaria Welcomes the Tastes of the World International Culinary Festival in May. The exact dates are not yet known. The event will be one of the largest in the cultural calendar of the Municipality this year and will promote the Old Bulgarian capital as a quality food destination worth visiting. Veliko Tarnovo will participate with authentic recipes for food which used to be prepared during the Middle Ages.

A variety of products, recipes, food and beverages which are nowadays typically produced and prepared in Veliko Tarnovo region will also be presented at the fest along with the culinary traditions and customs of the area. The festival will pass through seven Bulgarian towns and will be held in two stages.

During the first stage recipes for various traditional dishes will be collected and then evaluated by a jury. People can submit their favourite Bulgarian recipes at www.Iknowbulgaria.bg; they must be traditional for the region in which they live.

The second stage will feature the approved dishes and will go through seven major Bulgarian cities. Guest from 17 other countries will join the Bulgarian hosts for this part – Azerbaijan, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Egypt, Morocco, Hungary, Poland, Israel, Venezuela, USA, UK, Mexico, Romania, Croatia, India, and Cuba. Famous chefs will honour the events at each stop and of course there will be lots of fun, food, wine and music.

Souvenirs, made exclusively for the festival, will be available for purchase in each of the 7 Bulgarian towns. They will cost 3 lv and all revenues will go to charity; each of the hosting municipalities will choose a cause they want to support.
