The only zoo in the area, located in Pavlikeni, renewed its licence to work for another 5 years. The place enjoys great interest and in order to continue this positive trend, they have increased their fauna with new inhabitants. The variety of animals is now complemented by albino kangaroos, ostriches, emu and jackals. Besides them, monkeys, deer, bears, foxes, cute Vietnamese piglets, and many more can be seen in the zoo.
The animal complex will be expanded by four decares. An adjacent plot of land has already been purchased to house the cages of future exotic species. The zoo’s lake will soon be renovated as well. Currently, the team of the zoo is caring for about 20 young specimens born during the first COVID-19 wave. What is more, the total number of animals in the zoo that visitors can see is over 200.
Farmers from the region and food traders periodically provide support for the zoo. However, the main part of the financing of the place is through funds from the budget of the Municipality of Pavlikeni. Last year, the local government invested over 180,000 leva in it.
The visit to the zoo is free, and at the entrance, there is a donation box, in which everyone can drop an amount, which will be used to support the animal complex. During one of its last openings, it was established that 15,000 leva had been collected, said the manager of the zoo, Sezain Mehmedov.
