The Christmas Market in Veliko Tarnovo starts on 1st December; it will be located in Marno Pole Park in the centre of the town. The market is inspired by the traditional Austrian Christmas markets and will bring us all the spirit of the Christmas season with lots of attractions, amusements, events and concerts. The park will be adorned with festive decorations and lightings for third consecutive year.
25 house-like stalls will be placed along the central alley in the park. Throughout December they will sell Christmas decorations and ornaments like balls, ribbons, garland, etc., toys, hand-made souvenirs, sweet treats, delicacies, drinks and seasonal goods. In the Glühwein House everyone can try Mulled wine and Austrian wursts (sausages). In the centre of the bazaar a special covered scene will be set up; various concerts and events will be held there every day in December. A makeshift fair-ground for the children will also be constructed nearby; it will feature a Ferris wheel, marry-go-rounds and many other amusements for children and grown-ups alike.
The Christmas Post Office will be set under a majestic spruce – kids can post their letters to Santa until 24th December. Santa’s helpers will make sure all the letters bear the correct address so that the white-bearded man can send a reply to all the little boys and girls.
Germany will have two days dedicated to it on 5th and 6th December with representatives of the German Embassy taking participation in the celebrations. Great Britain will also have such a day – it will be on 15th December; again there will be members of the British Embassy present at the events during the day. The Christmas market will be officially open by the Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo on 5th December right after the Christmas lights in the town are lit. The festive bazaar will welcome visitors every day from 10 am till 8 pm until 31st December.
