Ksilifor, near Veliko Tarnovo, springs to life with magical sculptures

Students from Veliko Tarnovo University and the National Academy of Arts have turned the park at Ksilifor near Veliko Tarnovo in a magical forest. Dozens of sculptures made of wood, stone and metal now adorn and enliven the area. Ksilifor is located just 3 km away from VT and is a favourite place for day outs, hiking, sports and entertainment. Some of the enchanting items you will find there are a fabulous library, a tree with a golden apple, a magic carpet, a swing in the form of a dragon, Baba Yaga’s House (Baba Yaga is a witch who flies around in a mortar or on a broom and wields a pestle, and dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs (or sometimes a single chicken leg) and Flintstone’s car. A flock of ducks keep them company and a few turtles calmly swim in the small lake in the park and occasionally go out ashore.

Besides the sculptures of characters from fairy tales, the young people participating in the event have also created and set up benches, tables, chairs and other park furniture. The Park Sculpture and Functionality Student Workshop was first held in 2011.

Veliko Tarnovo – Arbanasi road closed till the end of August

The planned reconstruction of the Veliko Tarnovo – Arbanasi road starts today (12.07.2016). Recently heavy boulders and mud from the slopes along the road collapsed onto 2 cars prompting authorities to take actions to secure the lot. Road signs will indicate the detour route.

People travelling from VT through Arbanasi to Gorna Oryahovitsa and vice versa should take the road passing through Sheremetya. Closed for the entire time will be the lot from the water tap at the chine all the way to the fork at Mavrikov Factory. The road is said to be open on the way to the fork at Mavrikov Factory. The road is said to be open on September, 1^st.

19th International Folklore Festival Veliko Tarnovo

This summer Veliko Tarnovo will turn into the world capital of folklore for the 19th time. The International Folklore Festival Veliko Tarnovo is an event which has become inseparable part of the cultural programme of the town. This is a real, long anticipated feast for both citizens and guests of the old capital of Bulgaria. Dancers, musicians and singers from all over the world (Bulgaria, Belgium, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Mexico, USA and Chile) will bring good mood into our summer days in a way most enchanting and unique. Due to its perfect organization, exotic participants and the positive charge and emotions it brings, the festival is considered one of the most popular events in the world of folklore. The festive week will last from July, 16th till July, 23rd. Many more events will be hosted during the week – Miss Festival Contest, a traditional cuisine night, a photo exposition, etc. Both participant and audience will be sure to have a great time. All events are free of charge. Prepare for a sizzling summer full of fun!

Moto Rock Fest Veliko Tarnovo 7th – 9th July 2016

Moto Rock Fests Veliko Tarnovo marks its 10 anniversary edition this year. More than 2000 bikers from Bulgaria and 9 more countries will gather for the event; it will take place from 7^th till 9^th July. Rock fans from Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Holland, Norway, Germany and Austria will join this year’s fest. The rock fest is being organized by Old Bustards MC and Hell’s Angels MC. The venue is the same as last year – by Asenevtsi Monument. Beer and BBQ stalls will be also set up.

As usual there will be a stage which will host a number of performers, including the popular Bulgarian stars Milena, Kolyo from Obraten effect, Erol from Wikeda, Petsata from Control united in the new super band Petsa’s Show; they will hit the stage on the 7th (Thursday). The guest star on Friday (8^th July) will be Svetlyo Vitkov and his group The Legends. The Serbian band Ayvar Mleven will stage an Iron Maiden Tribute and the Bulgarian Hammerhead will have a Metallica Tribute performance.

During the 4 days you can see an Erotic Show, Best Bike Design Contest, Stunt Riding Show and the Sound and Light Show at Tsarevets Fortress. Also rockers will have a parade through Veliko Tarnovo and will lay flowers at Mother Bulgaria Monument. A torch march ending at Tsarevets Fortress will be held too and 1000 of Chinese lanterns will be released in the sky commemorating bikers who perished in accidents.

The official opening of the fest is on July, 8th from 8 pm by the Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov. The organizers of the event are calling for everyone to be more tolerant and pay more attention on the road.

The 9th Dixie Jazz Festival takes place in July

The 9^th Dixie Jazz Fest – one of the most popular and most colourful music events in Veliko Tarnovo will take place in July. There will be three concert evenings – 7^th, 8^th and 9^th July (Thursday, Friday and Saturday); performers will once again offer their friends and loyal audience interesting jazz projects.

This year the festival will have a different venue – it moves from the Asenevtsi Monument to the stage at the Summer Theatre in Marno Pole Park. A number of side events will accompany and complement the atmosphere of the fest.

All events included in the program of the 9^th Dixie Jazz Fest are free to the public.
