A rich program awaits residents and visitors of Veliko Tarnovo on September 6th – Unification Day. The Unification of Bulgaria was the act of the unification of the Bulgarian Kingdom and Eastern Rumelia in the autumn of 1885. It was coordinated by the Bulgarian Secret Central Revolutionary Committee. The unification was carried out after riots in different cities of Eastern Rumelia, followed by a military coup on September 6th in 1885, supported by the Bulgarian Prince Alexander I and led by Major Danail Nikolaev. The day was declared a public holiday for the country by the National Assembly on February 18, 1998.

Festivities in Veliko Tarnovo for the National Holiday on March 3rd
A free pedestrian tour, traditional exhibition, horo and many more in Veliko Tarnovo for the National Holiday on the 3rd of March. The celebration of the National holiday of Bulgaria in Veliko Tarnovo will begin with a military ritual at 10.30 in front of the building of the municipality. The mayor eng. Daniel Panov will give a festive speech and he will give the Academic Award March 3rd to a cadet from the National Military University.
A stunning new light and sound show called Asenevtsi might have its premiere on 22 March at Tsarevets. The spectacle is about the Second Bulgarian Kingdom when Veliko Tarnovo was the capital of Bulgaria. The story presents our glorious kings – from Peter and Asen to Kaloyan, Ivan Asen II and his great victory at Klokotnitsa in which he defeated the ruler of Thessalonica Theodore Comnenus on March 9, 1230.

Enjoy the Sound and Light Show with a glass of champagne
Every Saturday of August and September the Tsarevgrad Tarnov Municipal Tourism Agency offers the residents and guests of Veliko Tarnovo the unique opportunity to watch the Tsarevgrad Tarnovo – Sound and Light Audio-Visual Show with a glass of wine from the VIP terrace overlooking Tsarevets Fortress at the cost of 16 leva. On 15th, 22nd and 29th August the attraction can be seen from 9.30 pm; on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th September 2015 the show will be aired from 9 pm.
Tickets can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre near the main post office or on-line at www.soundandlight.bg.
