Two ice-skating rinks will be available for the citizens and guests of Veliko Tarnovo. The first one of them is currently under construction behind Billa supermarket. The facility will span at 600 sqm. The field will be frozen via a latest state of the art technology using coolant called glycol. The skating rink will have all necessary certificates and will conform to all safety standards.
Veliko Tarnovo Municipality aims at making the town’s Christmas decoration more lavish and more beautiful with every other year. So this year as part of their efforts they are encouraging people living in Veliko Tarnovo and the neighbouring villages to take part in this initiative. There will be two categories – for private buildings and for public ones.
Everyone can send their suggestions to the Facebook page Велико Търново 2019 – Творим Щастие; the deadline is 22nd December. You should include photos and also write your name and the participating building address. There will be three prizes in each category – 1st place will receive 500 lv, 2nd place – 300 lv and 3rd place will get 200 lv. The winner will be chosen based on the number of likes it receives.
In the meantime Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and The Municipal Tourist Agency Tsarevgrad Tarnov announced that during the festive month the spectacular Sound and Light Show on Tsarevets Fortress will be played 6 times – it will be available on 6th, 7th, 13th, 20th, 27th and 30th December. The start time is the same for all the days – 7 pm.
The Christmas Market in Veliko Tarnovo starts on 1st December; it will be located in Marno Pole Park in the centre of the town. The market is inspired by the traditional Austrian Christmas markets and will bring us all the spirit of the Christmas season with lots of attractions, amusements, events and concerts. The park will be adorned with festive decorations and lightings for third consecutive year.
On November, 17th Tsrevets Fortress will shine in purple, the reason being the World Prematurity Day. Veliko Tarnovo Municipality is participating in the campaign to mark the day to show its support for the families of babies born pre-term. This day is observed each year to raise awareness of pre-term birth and the concerns of premature babies and their families worldwide
On Monday, from 7 pm Tsarevets Fortress is going to glow in purple for half an hour as a sign of Veliko Tarnovo’s and its citizens’ sympathy for the premature babies and their families and in memory of those who unfortunately lost their battle for life.
Approximately one in 10 of all babies born worldwide are premature. Bulgaria is also part of this grim statistics with premature births reaching 16-17% in some regions.
At the same time some good news came last week – apparently Veliko Tarnovo Municipality is one of 13 regions in Bulgaria with considerable rise in the birth rate. 1023 babies were born so far this year.
The town won 83 out of a total of 100 points
The international search engine trivago.com specializing in hotel comparison and based in Germany nominated Veliko Tarnovo as the most hospitable town you can stay in Bulgaria.
This high appraisal is based on votes both by native and foreign tourists who visited Veliko Tarnovo. The town scored the most points compared to all the other places that participated in the survey. Hostel Mostel scored 91 points thus taking the very first place. At the beginning of the year the hostel was pronounced the best in Bulgaria by another internet site also. Users had to rate personnel friendliness, price ranges, services included, etc.
