Veliko Tarnovo is getting ready for Christmas

More than 1000 lights, decorations and ornaments have already been mounted along the streets of the Old capital it was announced by the local authorities. The preparation for the traditional Christmas Market is also under way – 25 chalets will be set up in Marno Pole Park selling all kinds of treats. The Christmas Lights turning on ceremony will be on Friday, 25th November; as usual it will be accompanied by a firework display. Once we know more details about the variety of activities and their starting dates and times we’ll let you know!

Veliko Tarnovo to have a new cinema by the end of the year

The new movie theatre is set to open doors around the end of December. It is called Palace Cinema and will be accommodated in Mall Veliko Tarnovo at the premises previously hosting Arena Cinema. The place is presently being renovated and will offers better picture, sound and totally new interior so the wait is definitely going to be worth it.

Guy Fawkes Charity Event

14560065_10153681519451116_4169176418756164818_oimg_1812The Bonfire Night is just around the corner and if you missed last year’s party at the village of Momin Sbor now is the time to make plans for this Saturday. A British expat has been organizing Guy Fawkes Nights in the village of Momin Sbor for some years now and this year is not going to be an exception. This is going to be the fourth annual Bonfire Night. Wildrovers Ltd will be holding their Guy Fawkes Party on Saturday, November, 5th from 6.30 pm.

This is a charitable event and all the funds raised will go towards Velvet Hearts – a local animal rescue charity. Miglena Dzhurova, who founded the organization, has recently bought a new plot of land with the aid of a German charity support group. The construction of a new animal shelter on the grounds is scheduled for the spring, and the host of the party is hoping that with your help they can give the building a good start.

The organizer is promising a great fireworks show, raffle, BBQ and lots more.

All funds at the gate, from the bar and raffle will go to the charity so please give generously.

Veliko Tarnovo welcomes the renowned Balkanski Circus

The most awarded Bulgarian circus famous all over the world is visiting Veliko Tarnovo. The circus is actually known worldwide as The Bulgarian national circus. It will welcome everyone with a programme full of spectacular attractions and performances including the Flying Motorcycle and the Globe of Death. Artist from 8 countries will take part in the show. The chapiteau is set up behind Billa store at the roundabout near Praktiker. The circus is staying in Veliko Tarnovo for five days– 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th and 16th October – with shows starting from 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm in the first four days and from 11 am and 4.30 pm on the last day (Sunday). Tickets can be purchased from the ticket office on the site; prices vary from 3/10 leva (for children) up to 30 leva for a seat at the front row.

Elena But Festival for the 5th time

sushen-but-svinskiElena is preparing for the 5th edition of the Elenski But Festival. The event will take place from 14th till 16th October. The programme kick starts with a concert on Friday (14th) from 6.30 pm in Hristo Botev Square. During the three days the place will come to life with many re-enactments, attractions, degustations, competitions and exhibitions.

The renowned Elenski but is a dry-cured ham from which is a popular delicacy throughout the country. The meat is salted and rubbed 3121185238with herbs and then left to dry in the air. It has a specific taste and can be preserved in the course of several years, owing much to the climatic conditions of the Balkan Mountains region where Elena is located.

Saturday celebrations start at 10 am with the recreation of an old tradition – pig scorching over a pit; it will be staged near the Town Market. The Elena But Feast will be officially opened at 10.30 with the opening ceremony taking place in the Town Square. The dancing and music programme starts right after that. Kaleto Park will host a competition for the strongest balkandzhiya (mountain dweller) at 2 pm. After noon Bakalovata Kushta is the place for your children to have some fun. From 2 till 4 you can taste and sample wines and meat delicacies at the Tourist Information Centre. The fest will finish on Sunday with a fun artists’ show from 10 am .
