Architecture students from Sofia have made a suggestion for the Veliko Tarnovo Municipality to install an aerial tramway over Yantra River. They believe that the town is very suitable for a cable car due to its unique natural setting. It will be used for a means of public transportation but also as a tourist attraction. The aerial lift will span over Yantra River and will connect the Old Town with a point across the river, near the Stambolov Bridge. Spectacular views of Asenevtsi Monument, Sveta Gora Hill and the tiered houses on the opposite bank of the river will be revealed from the air. The students also envisage bright lights to illuminate the river banks and the transformation of old street phones into electronic tourist guides. We are yet to see if these projects are to be realized.

Veliko Tarnovo hosts motorcycle stunt riding show for the third consecutive year
Veliko Tarnovo will be the arena of an international stunt riding show for third year in a row, it was announced at a press conference held by Stunt Team Hazard Moto Club. The club is the organizer of the competition; it is conducted with the cooperation of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, under the patronage of Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov. The stunt riding ‘battle’ will take place on 6th, 7th and 8th June in the parking lot in front of Metro Wholesale Store; around 5000 people are expected to see the show over the three days. For their safety they will be separated from the bikes by concrete and metal panels fence. The motto under which the show will be held is Drive safely, be tolerant on the road.
So far 35 participant have enrolled but their number is expected to mount to 50. This year the spectators will see a woman competitor for the first time.

The Mayor of Kavarna shows his rock and heavy metal memorabilia collection in Veliko Tarnovo
The first of its kind travelling rock and heavy metal exhibition is to be shown at the end of this month in Veliko Tarnovo. It is owned by the Mayor of Kavarna Tsonko Tsnonev. The Mayor will put on display the relics from his private collection in a rock bar in the Old Capital of Bulgaria. The exposition will be opened on May, 30th.
The one of its kind museum comprises of items that the Mayor has been gathering for the last eight years. Among the exhibits is the guitar on which Manowar played rock version of the Bulgarian national anthem, Burn – the gold record of Deep Purple, of which there are only 50 copies in the world and a retro phone with the AC/DC logo on it, used by the so-called Metal Mayor to keep in touch with the band (this is a joke of course).
16 pieces in total will be shown to the guests and citizens of the town. The exhibits are all presents gifted by the numerous rock and heavy metal stars that have performed in Kavarna. Tsonko Tsonev has some of the items granted to charitable causes – the leather jacket of John Lawton was sold at a charity auction for nearly 800 euro. The Mayor’s collection also features a car with the autographs of legendary names like Alice Cooper, Udo Dirkschneider, Tarja Turunen, Scorpions, Glen Hughes, Ronnie James Dio, Simon Wright (AC/DC), Manowar and many other stars who have visited Kavarna. The precious autographs are signed on Mayor’s car dashboard and interior door panels. There are over 30 signatures in total but soon there will be lot more – the next edition of Kavarna rock fest in the Black sea resort will welcome eight rock and heavy metal bands, said the Metal Mayor. On June 27th, 28th and 29th the stadium in Kavarna will be the stage for Europe, Halloween, Sabaton and many more stars.
A Happiness Pavilion will be opened today at 4.30 pm in Veliko Tarnovo’s Marno Pole Park. The futuristic stall will have an important role in Veliko Tarnovo’s communicational strategy as part of the bid to win the European capital of Culture 2019 Contest. The installation and the area around it will turn into a creative open scene till the end of September. The stage will welcome participants and artists who want to share their works and art with citizens and guest of the town. The Pavilion will also be the place for a number of artisan workshops, ateliers, master classes and open lessons. It will also double as an information centre concerning the candidature in the contest and a place where everyone can share their thoughts or give suggestions for a project or a cultural event.
The Happiness Pavilion will be interactive; everyone can have a small wooden piece on which to write or draw their wish or massage and then stick it back on the Pavilion frame.

Hoards that belonged to the Bulgarian khans Asparukh and Kubrat on display in Veliko Tarnovo
The most renowned hoards of khan Asparukh and khan Kubrat will be shown in an exhibition in Veliko Tarnovo. Its realization was made possible due to the cooperation of the National historical museum. The show was officially opened on Wednesday and will welcome visitors until the end of September. It is hosted in the exhibition rooms of Hadji Nikoli Inn, located in the artisan street called the Savodska charshia. The exposition is called The Glory of Bulgarian Rulers. The vessels on display are the sole precise replicas of the emblematic authentic medieval Bulgarian treasures. One of them was found near the village of Malaya Pereshchepina, Ukraine and the other near the town of Sânnicolau Mare, Romania. 9 vessel replicas from the treasure of khan Kubrat and copies of all the 23 vessels from the hoard of khan Asparukh will be put on display. The copies were gifted to Bulgaria as a present for the commemorations of the 1300th anniversary of the country’s founding. The exhibition itself is marking 1200 years from the death of another Bulgarian khan – Krum.
The discovery of a hoard in 1912 in the neighbourhood of Poltava, Ukraine, near the village of Malaya Pereshchepina was not in itself a rare event, but in its wealth and diversity this hoard far exceeds all others. It is rightfully regarded as one of the richest finds from the period of the nomadic migrations. Dated to the period between the ancient world and the 7th century AD, the hoard is thought to have belonged to Kubrat, Khan of Great Bolgary (Great Bulgaria). The treasure is uncommonly rich, consisting of over 800 pieces, mainly of gold (total weight over 25 kg) and silver (over 50 kg), including 16 gold and 19 silver vessels. The authentic vessels can only be seen in the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The treasure of Nagyszentmiklos
The Treasure of Nagyszentmiklós or Treasure of Sânnicolau Mare is an important hoard of 23 early medieval gold vessels, in total weighing 9.945 kg found in 1799 near the town of Sânnicolau Mare in Romanian, Nagyszentmiklós in Hungarian. It is variously dated from the 6th to the 10th century. After the excavation, the treasure was transferred to Vienna, the capital of the then empire. Ever since, it has been in the possession of the Kunsthistorisches Museum there, where it is on permanent display.
