The local newspaper of Borba published some data today which shows that the number of people living in Veliko Tarnovo, based on their permanent address registration, is 72,938. The second most populated town in the municipality is Debelets with its 4007 permanent residents. Kilifarevo is the home of 2446 people.
Resen apparently is the largest village; the population there is 1946. 1495 are the officially registered people living in Samovodene. The list continues with Ledenik – 872, Belyakovets – 793, Vodoley – 788, Prisovo – 773 and Pchelishte – 609. Arbanasi is the permanent place of abode to 299 people.
Gorna Oryahovitsa Aiport
Civil Airport of Gorna Oryahovitsa Consortium was given the concession of Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, according to the draft decision of the Council of Ministers, addressed to the Mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, Dobromir Dobrev. The concessionaire was the only participant in the procedure for granting the right to operate the airport. The draft decision has yet to be voted at a meeting of the Council of Ministers which is imminent to happen. In two months’ time after the decision is passed the concession contract has to be concluded between the Minister of Transport, Ivaylo Moskovski, and the Consortium. The concession period is 35 years. The investments that the new operator will make for the duration of the concession will be not less than 32.1 million leva.
Although it took quite some time, things are really happening now so hopefully everyone from Veliko Tarnovo area will be able to fly to and from Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport. We will keep you posted with any updates!
Organic Food Producers have voiced their request for a specially designated Farmers Marker where there can sell their fresh produce. According to them it will be best if it is held once a week at a place allocated by the Municipality. Talks about the exact location are underway now; farmers hope that it will be a lively spot which can be visited by everyone interested, like Marno Pole Park or Buzludzha Neighbourhood. Fruit, vegetables, dairy and meat products will be offered at the Organic Farmers Market. Most likely the first edition of the event is going to be around Veliko Tarnovo’s Official Holiday – March, 22nd.
The ice rink
An open air ice rink covering 400 sqm is now operating in Veliko Tarnovo. It opened doors on December, 9th. The facility is set up in the parking lot at the northern entrance of Ivaylo Town Stadium. Last year the ice skating rink was placed in front of Vasil Levski Palace of Culture and Sports.
The owner of the rink keeps the good tradition he established and children from orphanages in Veliko Tarnovo Municipality skate for free. The fee for pupils and students is 3 leva per hour and for adults – 4 leva. A pair of skates can be rented for 2 leva per hour.
There are 250 pairs of skates available, ranging from size 27 to size 47. Also there will be free lessons for those who are not confident in their skating skills.

The role of the Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality was also noted – he is the only acting mayor of a municipality in the country that has profound experience and considerable contribution to the development of tourism.
